Global Perinatal Services (GPS) provides community-based doula services that educate, respect, and empower Black, refugee, and immigrant families. Based in Burien, Wash., the organization’s doulas guide families through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period, reducing the risk for medical intervention for both the mother and child while providing informational, emotional, and physical support.

Recent Remala Foundation grants to GPS made it possible for the organization to purchase baby essentials, feminine hygiene products, and household supplies for families. It also supported doula services for Afghan refugees who had recently arrived in the region.

“All of our services are free, and we do not turn away anyone who needs them,” says GPS founder and executive director Faisa Farole. “It's foundations like yours that help us make this possible.”
